Light changes everything when it comes to paint. The same shade can feel bright and airy in one room, and deeper or warmer in another - simply depending on the direction of natural light and the time of day. That’s why room orientation is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing colours for your home.

Bright Rooms & Consistent Daylight

Some rooms are filled with steady natural light from morning to evening, making colours feel brighter, clearer, and more open. A soft white in a south-facing space can appear warm and luminous all day, while gentle neutrals and pastels often look their best in these consistently bright rooms.

Darker Spaces & Shifting Light

Other areas of the home can behave very differently. North-facing rooms may feel cooler and more shadowed, while east-facing spaces glow in the morning but fall darker later in the day. A shade that looks perfect at midday can feel much deeper by evening under lamplight. Taking the time to sample colours in each room helps you choose a finish and tone that stays balanced, comfortable, and truly right for that space.

Always Test First

Once you’ve shortlisted a few favourites from our Colour Card Selection, we always recommend ordering Sample Pots. Testing colour on your own walls is the best way to see how it behaves in real conditions - morning light, afternoon sun, and evening lamps can all reveal different undertones.
